Happy Wednesday loves!
We are mid way through the week, and if you are anything like me you have probably already started thinking about the weekend!
If you don’t already have plans, or are thinking about doing a weekend getaway, I would put Boulder on your radar asap! There are so many wonderful things to do and see in Colorado, and this city is one of my favorites to highlight! I have many memories in this city, dating all the way back to the college days when I would drive the 35 minutes from Denver to see all my girlfriends attending CU. Whether making the trip for specific hikes, to eat at award winning restaurants, or to simply do a little shopping, you will be sure to have a good time!
Earlier this year, I got the chance to do a staycation at the beautiful Hotel Boulderado. Having driven by many times before, I was delighted to actually spend some time there!
The hotel itself is a historical landmark that boasts an on site restaurant (Spruce Farm & Fish), speakeasy (License No.1)and is in close proximity to a plethora of activities!
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, and I was immediately intrigued by all the antique furnishings and charm upon entering. Save all the clean lined modern locales for another day..this was truly breathtaking. There is something to really appreciate about a place that has housed years upon years of memories..Makes it all the more special in my opinion.
We were put in the North Wing Premium King, and I think it is the best room in the building. Being slightly removed from the epicenter, and situated with floor to ceiling corner room views, we certainly had love at first sight types of feelings:). To be honest, when traveling with another person, I usually feel a little cramped sharing 1 BD 1 BA, but this was spacious enough that I didn’t feel the least bit crowded.
After getting situated and unpacking, we decided to give into our rumbling bellies and started what ended up being a culinary tour of the area! T/ACO was up first, and blew us away with their selection. It was a little hidden, and filled to the brim with locals, so we knew we had found a gem. I am not kidding when I tell you these are THE BEST tacos I have had in the state of Colorado, hands down. (my mouth is watering a little even reminiscing) Order: Cojita, Fish, Pork Belly, Shrimp, Barbacoa, Mushroom tacos with their chips & guac and a skinny margarita.
Salt laden and craving a sweet, I dragged my guest over to the most delicious gelato spot I had found a few weeks prior, Gelato Boy. Being dairy free, it’s hard to find good dessert options when dining out, but this is UGH, DIVINE! Order: Dairy free Chocolate, Peppermint Hot Chocolate, or Cookie Dough.
To be honest, after this we went back to the room and took a nap because (1) we were on “vacation” and (2) that bed was just simply calling our name. The bed did NOT disappoint.
Having a little free time before our dinner reservation at Salt,*( Order: PEI mussels, Risotto Nero, Cassoulet, Pot Roast, and a bottle of the Domaine Saint Damien, Grenache & Mourvèdre, Gigondas 2016*)
the hotel kindly arranged a tour for us! I am such a nerd when it comes to the history of things, so I loved seeing what the very first rooms looked like, learning what artists contributed to the amazing glass ceiling, and even what areas were supposedly haunted. The tour ended with a walk through their very own speakeasy License No.1 (SO COOL!) They have live music Thursday-Saturday, and would be an amazing space to host a party or get together in.!
Upon waking Sunday morning, we decided to order room service and enjoy it complete with the fluffy robes that were provided (dream morning).
Stuffed and done packing, we headed out to make the short drive back to Denver. I must admit I was sad to leave, but reassured myself that I could come back anytime. (Have already set aside another weekend in my calendar) Our stay was absolutely wonderful, the employees made us feel like nothing less than royalty, and I can not recommend this hotel enough.
Alternative outside the hotel recommendations:
Pizzeria Locale, Frasca, , Wild Standard
Shopping-Pearl St. Mall– A multi block outdoor shopping center with a variety or stores and services! I stopped into Bliss, Goorin Bros Hat Shop, Ku Cha House of Tea, Jones & Co, Nani Nalu Beachwear, Peppercorn, Voss Art & Home, & Boulder Book Store.
Hike– Maxwell Falls Lower Trail
(*other options: Royal Arch Trail, Flagstaff Mountain, Rattlesnake Gulch)
Another one of my personal favorite things to do if the weather is nice, is to bike through the CU campus! I never get over its beauty! I will even sometimes pack a picnic with a book, and just relax the day away on one of the many grass areas.
Whatever you end up choosing to do, know that your stay at Hotel Boulderado whilst visiting Boulder will be a delightful one! Wishing you many fun memories!
